Rules

Revospring is a place to ask and answer questions. People here will disagree with each other, argue, and sometimes be unpleasant. That is not what these rules are for.

These rules exist to keep the site running and to keep people safe. They are not here to settle who is right in an argument, and they are not a way to have someone you dislike removed. Most conflict on this site is meant to be handled by you, with the block button, and the rules below say plainly where that stops and where we step in.

The Terms of Service is the legal document. This page is the practical one.

Who can use Revospring

You must be 14 or older. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 14, we close it.

The hard floor

These are the things we act on no matter the context, no matter who started it, and no matter what the person had coming.

• No doxxing. Do not post someone's legal name, address, school, workplace, phone number, or face without their consent. This is the one attack a block button cannot undo, and it is the point where an argument online becomes a danger offline.
• No threats of violence, and do not tell people to kill themselves. This includes "kys" and every variation of it. If you are angry enough to type it, block them instead.
• Nothing sexual involving minors. No sexual content depicting or describing minors, no requests for it, and no adult soliciting a minor. Report this to us immediately if you see it.
• No impersonation. Do not pretend to be another user or a member of staff.
• Nothing illegal. Content that exposes the site to legal liability gets removed.

How we expect you to handle conflict

No targeted campaigns

You can dislike someone. You can say so. What you cannot do is pursue them. A targeted campaign means any of these:

• Continuing to contact someone after they have blocked you or asked you to stop, whether through another account, anonymously, or through other people
• Asking other users to contact, report, or pressure a specific person
• Circulating a callout or dossier about a user in order to drive them off the site
• Coordinating with others to report the same person
• Following someone from thread to thread to keep at them

Notice that none of this depends on why you are doing it. We do not weigh whether your grievance is justified. A campaign against someone who genuinely wronged you is still a campaign, and we will treat it as one.

No block evasion and no ban evasion

If someone has blocked you and you make another account to keep reaching them, that is block evasion. If we have banned you and you make another account to keep using the site, that is ban evasion. Both undo the only tools that make this site workable, so both are taken seriously.

No spam

If you want to insult someone, that is between you and them. Do not do it fifty times. Repetition is the thing we act on, not the insult. The same goes for flooding inboxes, comments, or the timeline with anything else.

Reporting

Report honestly

The report button is for rule violations. It is not a dislike button and it is not a way to escalate an argument. Reporting in bad faith, or getting your friends to report someone with you, is itself a violation and one we treat as seriously as what you were reporting.

Frivolous reports

Before you report someone, check this page and ask whether they actually broke a rule listed on it. Somebody disagreeing with you is not harassment. Somebody being rude to you once is not harassment. If you report a user for "harassment" and all we find is a disagreement or a mean comment, that is a frivolous report, and we may suspend the account that filed it.

We would rather explain the difference than punish you for not knowing it, so a first miscalibrated report will usually get an explanation. Doing it repeatedly, or doing it as part of a campaign, will not.

Do not manufacture a grievance

Do not send yourself abuse in order to report it. Do not edit screenshots to make someone appear to have said something they did not. If we find that a complaint was fabricated, we act against whoever fabricated it.

Blocking is normal

Being blocked is not a punishment and not an accusation, and blocking someone is not an admission that they won. It is the ordinary way people on this site stop dealing with each other. We would rather you block ten people than report one of them.

What we will and will not do

These are commitments from us, not rules for you. They are here because people have misunderstood them before, and that misunderstanding did real damage.

• We do not decide who is right. We act on conduct on this site against the rules on this page. We do not rule on the merits of your dispute, we do not decide who the bad person is, and we will not take a side in a conflict that started somewhere else.
• We do not act on things that happen off Revospring. Screenshots from other platforms, chat logs, and documents about someone's history elsewhere are not evidence here and we will not read them. The one exception is the hard floor: if you have off-site evidence of a credible threat, of doxxing, or of an adult soliciting a minor, bring it to us and we will act on it.
• We may protect someone who is being piled on, whatever they are accused of. If a group turns on one user, we may act to stop it even if we are told that user deserves it, and even if the accusations are true. A pile-on is a thing we stop; it is not a verdict we enforce.
• Criticizing Revospring or its staff is not against the rules. You can say the moderation is bad, that the site is badly run, or that the people running it are wrong.
• We would rather use the smallest tool that works. Most problems get a warning or a nudge toward the block button. Bans are for the hard floor and for people who keep going after being told to stop.

What happens if you break a rule

Bans are not all permanent. A ban can be a day, a week, or a month, and a short one is usually meant as a full stop rather than an ending. Permanent bans are for the hard floor and for people who have already been given chances.

Every ban now carries a written reason, and you will see it when you try to sign in. If you think a ban was wrong, you can appeal it.

Protecting yourself

Most of what people ask us to do, they can already do themselves, immediately and without waiting for us:

• Block a user from their profile. They cannot see or reach you.
• Turn off anonymous questions in your privacy settings, so only signed-in users can ask you anything.
• Block an anonymous asker directly from the question, without knowing who they are.
• Mute words and phrases in your settings, so anything containing them never reaches you.
• Require an account to interact with you at all.
