there are films so disturbing and surreal that if u only look at them through a moral lens or try to force them into something literal, i genuinely don’t think u’ll understand what they’re trying to say.

crash sounds like people fetishising car crashes and getting turned on by metal and violence and destruction. but i never really thought that was the point of it. to me it feels much more about emotional numbness. people so disconnected from themselves and from life that they end up finding comfort in something dangerous and empty because at least it makes them feel anything at all. almost like a cult built out of loneliness and detachment.

and weirdly enough, i think me and my siblings connected to it so much because we all saw the film in a very similar way. one of my favourite things we still do now, even getting older, is sitting together watching films and then spending hours talking about them afterwards. all the hidden philosophies, the emotional side of it, the things we interpreted differently or understood immediately without needing to explain much.

i think those conversations genuinely brought us closer as a family over time. those film nights stopped feeling like just “watching something” years ago. they became ritualistic.
